    Default on the SI units

When I get mine and if I put it on the console, then with my Lowrance up front, how to you get the units to hook up together where I can mark way points with the SI and then just transfer them to the unit up front? Is there a communication box I need to get? Trying to get all my ducks in a row on what all I need to get to actually set things up the right way for a change

You'll need the Mead Transfer Unit with the Ticonderoga translator.

That'd be a pad and pencil. Can't get Lowrance/Hbird to talk.

    Default That bites

Was hoping they'd communicate. What the Humminbird units run that are compairable to my 500? I have that elcheapo huminbird unit on the boat already and also a garmin. MAYYY can get 75 for both combined, then about 400-450 for my 500 IF I wanted to go that route

Far as I know, there's no way to make Lowrance/H'bird communicate. If you were to get real technical, I think you can hard wire some to accept nmea input and lowrance is capable to nmea output, but we'd be gettin way over your paygrade. If you want them to communicate, you'll need another H'bird and an interlink. That's the bottom line.

It can be accomplished though by saving waypoints on H'bird to a card, putting on a card, take to pc, translate to Lowrance, then insert and upload to Lowrance. And vice versa. Ain't smooth, but it works.

Truth is though, the spots you'll mark with the front unit (tops, stumps) are different types from back unit (trolling). I have the ability to transfer points from front to back with card swapping routine, but after I did it a few times, I realized I really didn't need to.

About the only thing that's useful is having marked an entry point for single poling and transfer that point back to the console to be able to run back to it with the O/B. It's easier to do that with pen and pad than going through the card crap.

Well lets use Wannabe for a example. He has more electroics on his boat than a space shuttle and he still cant catch anything. LOL

I don't know if you can synch them up to mark the same waypoint simultaneously but you can convert and transfer from one to the other with this little jewel here: GPS Visualizer: Web interface to GPSBabel

I've gone back and forth b/w Lowrance sonar and Garmin/DeLorme handhelds with no problem, I think it will convert just about any format out there. I got that link from Canepole last year and it has been a lifesaver.
