Crappie Reaper, I only completed 50 hours of my degree. I dropped out about 12 to 15 hours short of reaching my diploma and graduation. I never had to pay one cent back. I envy you working hard to support such a big family. I would pull my hair out. I know it would be tough, but you could probably still get help if you wanted to go back to school.

Whats with Crappie Seeker? he acts like he can do somethings on his own.whats with this self responsability? IT is like a old Twilight episode.Crappie Reeper, you have what most people never will experiance. You have family , and friends.. Dad was no wealthy man but he died happy and he had friends.Americans are given ample oportunities for advancement, and crappie seeker went out and chased em'. when children don't see the parents feeling sorry for them selves, they won't feel sorry for themselves. .........the Gov't also owes me nothing. mudwitch, I'm not sure I understand the part where you said I act like I can do somethings on my own. Whats with my self responsibility? Explain what you mean, I am confused. If you are a taxpayer, the government doesnt owe you a hand out, but it should give you a hand up. That is just what it did for me and my family. I wish the best for all you guys and gals.

I think he was being sarcastic. He agrees with you. I thought it was a good story also, one that will not be told on the mainstream news. The welfare state has spun itself into a vicious cycle. And the gov. does not know how to get out of it or just may not want to. I have never relied on anyone but myself for anything, but that was how I was raised. Don't get me wrong I do not see anything wrong with a gov. grant or help someway to get you going. There is a problem with wanting the gov. to keep you up forever.

i work as a trainer for emergency responders. i can tell you that "the plan" is good, but without funding we (i.e., US) will not be prepared. where is the money going? where is the money coming from to fund the Katrina relief/response?

Great story seeker, I tip my hat to you.

UOTE=crappieseeker]I too would be living under the poverty level if I didnt get out and make a living on my own. You have to make a decision, live in poverty, or do what it takes to get out. I understand their are sick people and handicap people who live in poverty, and I know they cant help it. Look at all those people who can help it though, just like some people said, they wanna take advantage of the government and the taxpayers who do get out and work. The government offers many resources to people who are willing to seek help to better themselves. I know this from personal experience. They offer childcare and college for females with little to no income, not to mention housing, food, water, and electricity and you guessed it health care. They offer college to disabled people to learn something they can do within their means. They offer college for people who lose their jobs from layoffs. Ask me how I know this. I worked hard to make just enough money to get by for a long time. My wife couldnt work a regular job because she had a lung disease. Mill work, fast food, and jobs of that nature were out of the question. The government paid for her a 2 year college degree and she received a full pell grant the entire time because of my low income. She now works as a nurse and makes almost 25 dollars an hour. I lost my job due to a permanant layoff, and the government paid for me a 2 year college degree with a full pell grant. I didnt take complete advantage of it because I chose to go back to work when an adequate opportunity arose. Which I think the college I had under my belt at the time helped me to land. I now make around 25 dollars an hour. I struggled at times to make it, but I never gave up. There are opportunities out there, I chose to take advantage of them. I could have sat back and done nothing, but with my will and some help from the government, I'm proud of where I am today. People need to stop blaming the government for all their problems. The people that I really sympathize with are those that didnt heed the warning due to the fact that they were hard working citizens that probably thought it would be like the many many times before and not hit. They probably wanted to work and make a living to support their family and needed every dime they could get. They didnt think it would be so bad, and wanted to be supportive for their family. You can say they should have left, and that life is not worth risking, but some people will do anything to support the people they love. Maybe those hard working folks that were fortunate enough to make it will move elsewhere and continue to be all they can be. Those that are too lazy to work, maybe they will self destruct. Those that steal and make a living by robbing from the hard working innocent people, may GOD deal with them. Love to you all[/QUOTE]
