We have let the minority tell us what we need. We laid down and rolled over for them. I hope gas gets 10 dollars a gallon. And we can have only one child per couple. You're right about there being no oil shortage and the lack of refineries, but it has been engineered by the oil magnates to drive oil prices up...more demand=higher prices, all under the guise of environmental concerns. The situation could have been alleviated years ago if the auto industry had listened to the wishes of the public, ie better mpg built into our cars and trucks. It's my opinion that the Auto Industry and Oil Industry have been sleeping in the same bed, with the Auto Biz's hands in the deep pockets of the oil barons. It's obvious that the Oil Industry will not tolerate any decrease in oil usage, demand is their goal, and profit is the result. We are only now seeing some attempt by the Auto manufacturers to develop autos that get better gas mileage via the hybreds and smaller vehicles, but they want us as consumers to carry the burden of research costs included on the price sticker. What's shameful is that the design for those autos have been purchased by the oil companys. Remember the farmer that developed a way to power an engine to run on chicken manure? (methane) If it ever existed, it's in a file locked up somewhere. Pardon my rant.....I've worked in the oilfield for years, and it made me a good living, but I can't ignore what's obvious.
