Birddog,
I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day. And when it comes to my last cast I then most humbly pray. When in the Lord's great landing net and peacefully asleep. That in His mercy I be judged, BIG ENOUGH TO KEEP.
Why didn't he get in the race sooner!
Since I was asked my opinion, here it is..LOL.
I have no use for any type of fully auto uzi, bar, ak-47, etc. However, I don't feel I have any right to tell someone they can or can not own the firearm of their choice. My .308 will kill someone just as dead as an uzi or any gun of the sort if I choose to do it. If my kids are killed with an uzi, it will be a very very sad ordeal and I would probably go nuts. However, would they be any less dead if they were shot with a .22? 12 gauge? How about attacked with a switchblade? Lets entertain the thought for a second and all fully auto weapons are banned. A total infringement on the second amendment. Wouldn't that be the same thing as saying you can be a baptist, a catholic, a methodist but you CAN'T be church of christ? Total infringement on the First Admendment. Nobody in their right mind would dare to challenge the First Admendment, but folks sure are quick to challenge the Second.
Some of you will probably respond stating that religion doesn't kill innocent people the way a fully auto does. To save you the trouble of typing it out, remember Waco Texas? Some people believe Waco was nothing more than David Koresh mass killing all of his followers before offing himself before government officials ever step foot on the ground. Others believe the BATF and government officials murdered the innocent followers because of their religion. Either way, it was religion that got the whole mess stirred up.
Others of you will probably say that I don't get your point. And you are right. I don't. Present me facts supporting the idea that someone is anymore dead by getting shot with an uzi vs. getting stabbed 40 times with a fillet knife and I will gladly kiss his/her rear end in downtown mainstreet and give him/her 30 minutes to draw a crowd.
Oh yeah, btw, I would never let my 8 yr old fire an uzi, but that is just me. If any of you guys/gals out there do not have a problem with your kid doing it, just be prepared to suffer the consequences if something bad happens as a result. Just don't blame it on the gun... it gets a bad enough rap as it is.
I just watched an interview with the boy's father (a doctor). He seemed to take no responsibility for what happened to his son. He simply said that "it was an unexplainable accident". Of course everyone else that was there said it was because of the Uzi's recoil. Some people want him charged with child endangerment, but that seemed pretty unlikely.
Most accidents can be avoided, that one certainly could have with a little common sense. Sounds like the Dad is a little too detached from the situation and needs to be brought to the understanding of what he allowed to happen. It was his responsibility to protect his child and he failed to do that. It's his fault his child is dead. He failed his primary obligation. I sure wouldn't want him as my doctor.
John 21:3
Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We are going with you also." They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.
And we act like this Nightstalking thing is new.
For some excitment, read the next verse. A special guest arrived, they filled their coolers and had a fish fry on the beach...in the morning. My kind of people.- Bowfin
BOBBERWATCHER, I could not agree with you more. Nice post.
