That's life, and you are lucky that you got to wait until later in life. I had quit wearing contacts for a while in my late 30s because of presbyopia because I couldn't see super close and far at the same time with a single prescription and needed to be able to look at wire harnesses in tight spaces at work. Once I turned 40, my Optometrist confirmed that I needed the reading prescription just to read at normal distances and had been wearing a progressive lens for a while. I had to swap to a multifocal contact lens to keep up with the kids' watersports activities, and I still need to wear reading glasses on top of that for detail work or pull the contacts out and wear my progressive lens glasses instead.
