I'm with you on that, Buck !! I had no doubt who was singing back in the day, but can't tell many of today's artists apart ... especially the female vocalists. Wasn't hard for me to tell the difference between Joan Jett & Stevie Nicks, but when I hear female vocalists now, they all sound the same to me. Not to mention that I don't even know who over half of them are.
Well, for me growing up anything but OLD country found around the house was instant target practice for dad and his Ruger .357 from the hip. My oldest sister sure kept him in practice too. Kitty Wells, George Jones were fairly new singers back then. Funny, but really don't listen to it much anymore. Unless I'm driving a long ways and start to get a bit tired. Up goes the music, down go's the window, and my hand hanging out the window usually gets me going again...
After I went in the service, I was exposed to a rather diverse amount of music styles, About every type out there, but I always gravitate back to those OLD, OLD country songs...One that comes to mind is Four Walls by Jim Reeves, and Walkin' After Midnight by Patsy Cline. Man, Can't seem to remember all of the older artist that have gone on before us. Don't hear them played any more on the radio much any more either...
Got me thinking, about what younger female singers I have heard lately that have a distinct voice. This gal - I don’t have any problem recognizing her. She’s been through a lot with substance abuse and mental health issues, hope she keeps singing for a long time though. Here is one I like that I believe should be appropriate.

For the last 3-4 decades I've been more about a song than a particular group. Sometimes when I'm just messin' around on the WWW and in no hurry to find something, post something, or learn something, I'll pull up Youtube and drop in a band or song. And while that's playing I'll run down the list of songs/artists that show up and proceed to spend a half hour or so just revisiting songs or checking out something that looks interesting. I might jump from Nirvana to Green Day to Soundgarden to Nine Inch Nails to David Bowie to Red Hot Chili Peppers to Marilyn Manson to Korn to R.E.M. to Stone Temple Pilots to Smashing Pumpkins to Pearl Jam to Creed to Staind ... and might even throw in some Talking Heads or Enigma for good measure. :Rofl
I am with you guys. Being a junk guitar player I'm all over the place with my music. My wife can't understand how I can go from classic country to heavy metal and never miss a beat. All of our boys play and their taste differ, so I hear all types of music. My grandson is trying to convert me to rap right now. I can't make myself like it but I don't discourage his taste in music. I have really gotten into new-grass music like Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, and Sierra Hull. If you get a chance check out Mae Estes a talented singer that just was on the Opry. Just saw a group that had Tesla's old guitar player Tommy Skeoch called Resist and Bite. They were awesome live. My playlist usually falls back to The Allman Brothers or Bob Seger and classic rock. Through the years I've come to like it all.
The cool part about this thread... No wrong answer or bad advice. Plus, I like learning about folks through their taste in music. Who would have thought CrappyPappy might be a headbanger:banghead. LOL

I occasionally DVR concerts off of AXS TV ... watched Stone Temple Pilots earlier this afternoon.
Bands/Artists I've seen live in concert :
The Rolling Stones
*Aerosmith/Head East/??
*ZZ Top
The Young Rascals
Kenny Rogers/Crystal Gail
(*other bands were on the ticket with these bands, but I don't remember who they were)
I really wish I could enjoy live shows. Several acts that I really like have came through Tupelo lately.
But, my love of music just can’t overcome my dislike of crowds of people. And, I’ve turned into a tightwad too. Man, tickets are $$$

I hear ya !! Most I ever paid for a concert was to see the Stones here in town. $100 for 2 tickets (me & my GF, late 1970's), and I winced when I handed the money over. Worked out OK in the end, as the 2 seats I got were closer to the stage than the other seats that the guy that purchased them got for himself & the other people in his group. rotfl
First time I saw the Stones, they were in Louisville ... and my buddy & I ended up in the nosebleed section. But that wasn't the worst thing. There was barely enough leg room to sit comfortably (I'm 6'1"), and standing up was taking your life into your own hands. :yikes To top it all off, the crowd "politely clapped" thru the first half dozen songs like they were at a freakin OPERA !! They did, eventually, get into it and got to hootin & hollarin, whistling & clapping like they meant it. But that was enough for me to swear off concerts in that town, regardless of who was performing. :check
I have 2 I like equally. Elvis singing "I Believe". For some reason it really reminds me of my only daughter I lost in 1966 and the other is Ravel's "Bolero". I'm not into classical but Bolero just seems to calm me down. If you ever listen to Bolero turn the volumn way up.
Here is one southern rock song I can listen to over and over

There was a time or two over the decades where I really enjoyed listening to bands that played instrumentals ... no lyrics, just music.
Bands/songs like :
The Ventures ... (several different ones)
The Shadows .... Apache
Booker T & the MG's ... Green Onions
The Surfaris ... Wipe Out
The Edgar Winter Group ... Frankenstein
Floyd Cramer ... Last Date (also my Mom's favorite all time song)
And even some of the Electronic Music bands & New Age Bands, like Tangerine Dream, Depeche Mode, Daft Punk, & Enigma.
So, I'm really not what you'd simply call a "metalhead", but more of a "Eclectic" when it comes to my music tastes.
The Ventures; who needs lyrics? Great recordings from their Japan trips in the mid 60's, including Wipe Out.

Anyone listen to Iron Maiden? I was heavy into them in the late 80s.
Rush is another of my all time favorite bands.
