I was working with a guy once, somehow something snagged and tore His blue jeans. He said "I have been expecting that. I took down an overhanging limb at the house, and then found a little bird nest in it. My Grandmother always told me "Knock a bird's nest, wear ragged clothes".

I know folks went to great lengths not to disturb a nest in spring.

Yep, I had never heard it either.
I have been more careful around bird's nests ever since.
