My wife makes up a plain table sugar/water syrup solution, but I'm not sure of the ratio, maybe 1 sugar, 4 water? She brings it up to a boil or near boil then lets it cool in the pan, off the burner. Once cool, it goes in the fridge. I think she got the recipe off the 'net.
