Are those rods with broken tips "old" rods ?? By that I mean several (5+) years old. BnM did have a period of time where they got a shipment of rods that were damaged in transport or mfg'd with flaws ... and there were several complaints about "weak tips" and breakage of the tips. Oddly enough, most seem to have broken in the same area of the blank, hence the idea that they could have been damaged in shipment or mfg'd with flaws (bad machining or substandard materials). It's been a few years, but best I can remember .... those that contacted Jack Wells directly & explained their dilemma, were sent new tips.

Now, user error can also cause damage to the tips : tips banging on the edge of something during transport, and holding the rod straight up with a heavy fish dangling on the line are two of the more common causes. (but I'm guilty of both with my 14' PST, and it hasn't failed/broken on me, yet.) In fact, here's a picture of me holding a 2lb Crappie on the PST with the rod almost straight up and my thumb against the line (trying to keep the fish from swinging around long enough to get the picture taken). The rod tip is bearing the whole load of the fish's weight.



I stopped doing that when I read about others having tips break on them, and I wouldn't even consider doing it with the BGJP or even the Capps/Coleman series rods. Their tips are not as stout as the PST's tips.

Yeah, I don't know about age on any of my poles. I buy one here and there. Break one here and there. I've got poles with eyelets missing, with tips broken off, with sections glued together with F14, and even one with the reel epoxied to the rod. I buy 5 to 7 rod sections at a time (just so it's worth S&H) and I've got one left. I try to run them until I can't run them anymore. Ol lady seems to think there's more to life than fishing. Ha, never said she was smart. Lol
