This place doesn't exist anymore in this form. Great place to work if you liked blowing things up. I worked building 35 where we messed with target drones and test fired missiles of all types.

Cool stuff Tom. Way above my pay grade.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
Was recently fascinated to find out in Viet Nam there was a "Firebee" drone that was credited with 3 different MiG `kills`...believe 1 was chasing `Tomcat III` and was lured in front of a waiting and armed US fighter, 1 flew into terrain while chasing `Tomcat III` thru mountainous terrain and the last was simply run out of fuel in an series of turning `dog fight` tactics that the MiG pilot repeatedly had to break off from and then turn back into trying to get a clear shot with. He became so completely asorbed trying to shoot down the drone he neglected his fuel state until he flamed out and was forced to eject...a `sign` of things to come.
Don't know about that LT, but we had some KD2 drones at Bien Hoa. They were used for recon, mostly to find SAMs. Some had UHF/VHF tv and some had high speed photo cameras. The KDs had no landing gear, so were retrieved by parachute from a designated rice field crash sight.
Also, the KDs recon drones were flown from carriers into mainland China. Not many folks know this.
I worked on the KDs at Point Mugu.

Look up ACIG.com/ SE Asia/ RPVs...there is a really good CLOSE UP of a MiG-21 `Fishbed that was fated to shortly be bouncing pieces of flaming wreckage in mountainous terrain...
