My wife gets so upset with my lack of hearing (not selective hearing) that sometimes she refuses to try to carry on a conversation. 27 years of chemical plant noise and a lifetime of shotgunning have seen to that. One particular shotgun blast at shoulder level, 2 feet away, gave me tinnitus so bad in my left ear that I swear other folks should be able to hear what I hear every minute.

When I go camping, it takes about 2-3 days for the ringing in my ears to stop.

You mean the ringing stops? Mine gets louder. The only sound I hear clearly is crickets

31 years in a power plant has been hard on my hearing also. I wear hearing protection now religously but it's way too late.

I worked construction all my life and know what you mean. Worked building houses, refineries,power plants and manufacturing so I got exposed to a good bit.
