We were coming thru Cincinnati ON I-71 about 11 PM one night a few years ago and got passed by a guy on a crotch-rocket doing a wheelie. We were running over 70 and he went by us and out of sight like we were sitting still, never came out of the wheelie. I told the guys in the truck with me if we find him laying in the middle of the road, we are going around without stopping. No way I wanted to get involved with an accident involving a future Darwin Award winner.

Unfortunately bikes offer little PROTECTION even if YOU are not at fault; physics says being on a smaller vehicle your body is going to take the majority of the impact as well as sliding to a stop. But pulling a wheelie on a highway is the kind of stunt an Imperial Japanese Kamikaze pilot or Al Quida suicide truck bomber would do on a regular basis...you can regularly break every law of man and it might take a while to get caught. Break the LAWS of physics and the PENALTY is instantaneous, unnegotitable and WILL be PAID IN FULL every time, regardless of whom you are, how much $ you have, who you know (other than God, perhaps) or any other factors...if that `penalty` is more than your body can pay, you DIE, it`s that simple...here`s your Darwin Award.
