Where does education stop and politics start? The one thing that allows ALL of this, we're unable to discuss?
Ed, and staff, you have done an outstanding job of providing a place of crappie knowledge...just like the name says. In doing so, you've brought together an amazing number of people from different corners and overlapping paths. Noticing the obvious, you've had to make changes to keep up with the interest. We've got things from hunting and fishing to cooking and working on motors. We like to tell some jokes, and tell stories, so how about that, too. You've made all the accomodations for people to simply click onto subjects and learn and discuss them.
Please, no politics.
Why is this such a big deal? It truly does affect every single person, whether they care to discuss it or not. I appreciate all of the information that I seek out on here. I say seek out, because I don't have to see any of it, if I don't click on it.
Education is paramount.
My 2 cents worth is that is the one topic that sometimes ends up in name calling and finger pointing, something Ed would like to avoid. I think his consolidation of the off topic forum is a good idea. I have found myself caught up in a couple of the heated debates and all of a sudden realized I had gotten all worked up. That was not why I joined this forum but I'm human and I get caught up like everyone else.
He is making the Way Off Topic forum password secure and you have to get the password from him, which I decided I would not do. That way I don't get all worked up over something when all I wanted was to read and chat about fishing.
Guess I am protecting me from myself.
But the forum is there for anyone to post and read if they care to.
Mark 1:17 ...I will make you fishers of men
Yep, we have it all, we even have a WOT forum if you really want to get into debating politics. But remember, these are the rules we agreed to when we joined Crappie.com
"Crappie.com is members only web site – not a public forum for anyone that wants to come in spouting their strong right or left wing political, sexual or religious views. It has nothing to do with censorship or freedom of speech, these are simply our agreed to rules of engagement. So please do not post or participate in political, sexual or religious comments that can in any way induce debate. Prayers sent to those in need ARE allowed, and encouraged."
Debating politics, or even religion, never ends well. Having run this website for all these years, and even with our rules against it, I've seen too many members get riled up and upset and quit posting. There are lots of other sites to debate politics. And mild political conversation is not really the problem, but it too often gets heated. You can talk education, you can talk news, but if it gets heated, it'll get moved to the WOT forum. That's the way it's always been.
Well Ed, I for one think you did the right thing in creating WOT. A lot of your pain would have ceased if some could put Beaver on ignore. You know it, many people have complained about this. I personally do not believe in the IGNORE button.
How many people have asked you why Moderators are IGNORE proof?
I find it kind of fun having a battle of wits with some these characters here.
