    Default Read it & weep

I have posted this on another thread but thought I would start a new thread for those that are not following the other thread

I have been associated with the old Bell System for the past 49 years(1963). Even after retiring 22 years ago my health care benefits for myself and family have been taken care of.

A few years back our company decided that they would also cover health care for "Domestic Partners". I can't imagine why they chose to self inflict those wounds. We have lost our common sense. I'll bet there is not a prostitute in Richmond that is not on our Plan.

Now the kicker:: In April of this year all employees, management & craft, were sent a letter stating that we had until June to provide the company with our marriage license and a copy of our 2010 or 2011 Federal income tax form. Can you believe this? After 49 years they don't know who I am. If this information wasn't provided by the June deadline all dependents would be dropped from coverage.

I called our Benefits Committee and talked with a person that I have known over the years. She said they had a bookkeeping nightmare by the tail trying to sort out who is who. She also said to be forewarned that in 2014 our health care, as we know it, would be drastically changed. The employees that are not on Medicare would feel this change the most.

I am a survivor and can probably handle this but I surely feel sorry for the young folks.

I retired from GTE (now Verizon) in 1991. This year I received the letter requiring verification of dependents. This must be happening all over. Not sure what is coming but I don't have a good feeling about it.

    Don,
I retired from Bellsouth in 2002. I have not gotten the letter yet, but it may be coming. My wife is on her own insurance plan, don't know if that makes any difference. When ATT bought Bellsouth my insurance changed, mostly to my benefit. Been on Medicare since 2010 so not sure what is coming next. One of our acronyms was "BOHICA" (bend over here it comes again). Guess it still applies.

Don, my wife's company that she worked for did the same thing a few years ago. she had to verify dependants on her insurance. When this was done they found out that people was insuring their pets on their health insurance policies. Most companies now are doing the same thing. It is across the board and doesn't mean anything against you or any individual that is honest. EB
