Need a petition started
To address the Corp Lakes pertaining to jet ski traffic. I propose that Jet Skis be regulated to areas close to the Corp Parks and those who own private docks that have them. I would like to see the out of the way ramps that are not maintained by the Corp, (i.e.-County ramps) become Jet Ski free zones. This would allow those that fish to be able to do so without having to put up with underage, under supervised children that have become a detrement to themselves and others while on the water. I feel they should be banned from going into coves that have no raamp or docks. There is a need to give fishermen SOME areas that they can fish during the daylight hours without having to put up with the yearly invasion of jet skis which gets larger as time goes on.
As fishermen, we pay for a license to be able to fish. Do jet skiers have to pay for the right to play on the water?
I realize that everyone should have the right to "play" on the water, no matter what their toys are. I do think that there should be a limit though to a point.
It will be interesting to see the responses. I realize they will lean towards the fishermen, but, those of you who have jet skis and use them a lot, stick your .02 in and give us your thoughts.

On my Lake they have to stay 75 yds away from a fisherman. All it takes is a call to the warden and they will escort them off of the lake plus a healthy ticket. EB

I would love to see something like that on my hometown lake (Tims Ford). Even the game wardens very rarely leave the safety of the "no wake" zones around the marinas. The lake has turn into a free for all in the last 10 years. You'll see kids(well under the age of 16) on 70 mph jet-skis, ocean going vessels, people openly drinking and driving boats, and overloaded pontoons dragging kids on tubes though the middle of all of it. With docks scattered from one end of the lake to the other I don't think they could devide our lake up, however if they were to put a time restriction on it, that might work. Say no pleasure boating till after 11:00 Am on the weekends or something. I would like to see more of the wardens going after the pleasure boaters than the fishermen, but they seem to only want to stop the fishermen. The sad thing is more and more people are gettin hurt every year (drownings and collisions). Yet when you call law enforcement to report the "wild party" going on in the middle of the boat ramp or on the lake nothing is done.

I heard a jet skier raising cain at boat ramp at Sardis last week. He was telling a game warden that some fisherman shot him with a paint ball gun. Warden's responce "if you was close enough for him to hit you, you was too close"....
