Remember a story where he and Jimmy Steward were at an airport during the Viet Nam War. Jimmy Steward`s son had just been reported KIA flying a F-105 over the North. As the 2 were preparing to board, a group of protesters were waving a North Vietnamese flag, and cursing a group of uniformed service personnel waiting to board their plane for Viet Nam. Seeing Jimmy`s obvious emotion over this John Wayne simply asked the stewardess to have the pilot hold the plane, turned on his heel and fearlessly waded into the awe struck protesters scowlling. The flag was SNATCHED down, pole broken several times and flag unceremoniously shredded; he then proceeded to berate them all, challenging them all enmass to MOVE to North Viet Nam "...RIGHT NOW and EXPERIENCE it for a year and see how many of you (DELETED multiple words) make it back" To the resounding cheers of those service people and others, he then returned to the plane awaiting him. Probabily only John Wayne could have pulled that off...
