punch a hole in it and pry it out with a screw driver

Seals with the o ring. The one in the motor likely has some corrosion and is a little stuck. I would gently work a screwdriver around between the housing and the rubber piece. Should be able to pop it out pretty easily

Be carefull doing dat Vet. We don't want to gouge/ scratch the alumni housing. Seal won't seal if u do dat.

That is why I had said gently. It is important to not gouge up the sealing surface

I wouldn't risk it. Maybe with a plastic trim tool.
Never had a problem doing it this way.

Is oil going to come out once this seal is removed?

Oil level should be below that seal

New thermostat is installed. Now on to the oil seal carrier.
