Got to work on it this evening. Yesterday we worked cattle and I was dead tired. Today at work I trimmed the piece for the top of the transom. The walls were too thick to fit on the plywood and aluminim hull. So a little millwork to take about 1/32 off of each side. Installed it and the aluminum gussets ( I guess that is the name ). I ran out of the special rivits when putting the deck supports back in place but I will get some regular ones tomorrow. These will never see the waterline ( at least I hope) because they are in the boat.
Tomorrow Iam going to try to get it welded then cleaned and primed. Will post more tomorrow.

We replaced a transom on a friends '86 Tracker about 12 yrs ago, doubling PT 3/4" like you have. The only thing we did different was soaking with Thompson's in a cheap plastic childs swimming pool held down with cinder block for 24 hrs after the green wood had been dried out for a while. It was still doing great as of a year ago. Good luck with yours.

The new pressure treated wood is not supposed to be good for aluminum. That is what I heard and read. Marine plywood would have been best but the nearest place that had it was 3 hours away. Could have paid $$$$ to have some shipped but this will last me till I get a new boat and then who ever gets it a while longer.Quote:

It is Friday and the Boat is at the shop -- We hope his friend gives him a head of the line pass to get the coating on the Transom this weekend .. the Motor standing all by itself looked Lonesome
Yes I have good friends..... and some bad ones. But this one is good. I got it back to the house t about 3:30 and disnt waist any time. Got to work sanding and wire brushing. Removed the extra silicone and oxidation. Taped it off and primed it with etching primer. Going to put a coat of bed liner tomorrow. Have used SS 1/4-20's,SS washers,and 5200 to replace loose rivets several times.it does good.
