    Default Hydroponic garden

Well I decided to try something new this year as I hate pulling weeds out of a garden! Did some research on hydroponics and decided I wanted to try this. So about 3 weeks ago I got everything set up and here are the pictures.
    One of the entire system:

    One of the tomatoes

And hydroponics is all about the roots so here is one of the roots off a tomato plant

Cucumber is not doing as good but it is hanging in there!

I have 2 - 4 way drips set up to feed 8 buckets and can add on really easy if I need to. Waiting to see how these do first but it looks promising so far, I have flowers on most of my tomato plants.

I have a submersible pump in this container and the other 2 lines are just return lines for the water. Have the system on a timer and it waters in the morning and night automatically.

Dwayne I watched a youtube video where a man was adding frozen water bottles to his tank on hot evenings. He would chill the water temp to 65 to 70 deg at night. He did this nights where the temp was at 80 deg and above. He showed the difference in tomato and pepper plants that were chilled and ones that weren't. The chilled plants were fuller and had triple the fruit. He explained how giving the plants a break from the heat caused less stress and blossoms to drop.
Dwayne do you have an aerator in your tank to. I have read where the more oxygen in your tank the better.

Hey Don, I do remember seeing that somewhere and thanks for the reminder. I will have to start freezing some bottles soon as we are getting on the warmer temperatures. No I don't have an aerator in there right now but probably adding one soon.

Walmart has inexpensive aquarium aerators for $10. Also have you checked out Growing a Vegetable Garden - The Bayou Gardener lots of info there. I like the site it reminds me of CDC a bunch of great people there. Next year I will be doing my tomatoes hydroponically because I have already lost about half my tomato plants do to the rains.

If you're interested in doing this check out You Tube.

Look up "MHPGardener" he has a series of videos on building Dutch Bucket systems. I've seen him product tons of tomatoes using this system even in the winter in his greenhouse. He was an outstanding member of the Bayou Gardener but haven't registered again since we had the system deleted a while back so all his post are lost.

Pawpaw I have watched tons of videos from MHP Gardener and learned a lot from him! I learned which nutrients to use by watching him. He is definitely a very knowledgeable guy!
