Yes, but what most people see and think is a barrel is a 55 gallon drum. Filled and emptied many of them where I worked, but most were chemicals, some oil. We also used ethanol in our process. We could get it in 55 gallon drums filled to 50 gallons. And it was pure 200 proof. But alas, to keep people from stealing some and trying to drink it(which you could), we would open the bung on each drum and add a gallon of hexane. That was called denaturing it. And making it poison to drink.
