We both love sweets, especially chocolate. However we don't keep many sweets around because seem to go straight to my waist, bypassing my digestive system entirely and just hanging on my belt line.
But we splurge at Christmas with homemade treats.
My Mom baked cakes to sell in the local market in our town. Her chocolate was everyone's favorite. She has passed on now, but this is a cake from a high school classmate of mine and it is a dead ringer for my Moms, but Mom's only had 5 layers, this one has 14.
My son's neighbor brings him a homemade pecan pie each Christmas and he shares with us. My 2nd favorite dessert.
Wife, Andrea makes these cream cheese coffee cakes from a recipe we got from a friend in Atlanta in the 70s. Great for late breakfast on Christmas morning along with her egg puff and crispy fried bacon.
We really were not too hungry after a big, late breakfast, but my other son and his family are coming tomorrow to spend a week with us, so I made up a recipe of Unstuffed Cabbage to have on hand. First time I've made it but it was pretty darn good and simple too. Had to have some corn bread to go with it.
May have to make one last raid on the kirchen before bed. Doing this post made me hungry.
