The AK's are great rifles....too bad its always our enemies that have them.....You can toss a AK in a mudhole, stomp it down in the mud good...pull it out and it will shoot and operate just fine. Our M16's get one little grain of sand in them and they wont function. dadgummed shame

The M14 I had in basic training and AIT was the same way the only the clip would cause a problem getting dirty. lots more recoil but who notices that in a fight.
sure didnt like giving it up for the M16, it looked like a Mattel toy compared to M14.

HA !! Didn't it though !! Qualified with the M14 in basic ('68) and got to shoot the M16 one day ... couldn't even hit the target at 25yds but that may have been because some dufuss left the thing on full auto before handing it to me and I burned nearly a whole clip before I could get my finger off the trigger Range Sgt was not a happy camper !! I had gotten so used to bracing for the recoil of the M14, I think I shot the remaining rounds UNDER the target.

Ended up not mattering, as I got stationed in S. Korea ... and our weapon issue was the M14 ... which is even more comical, because I ended up with a drivers license and Quick Reaction Force duty quite often ... and guess what weapon the QRF driver is issued ?? THE M60

Correct my friend. Unfortunate they are not US made. I appreciate fine weapons though.

Nice rifle "G" (M1).....In high school ROTC (3 years-1953-1956) we learned to take apart and put back together the M1 Garrand....blindfolded...also disassembled the M1 30 cal carbine and the M1911 45 pistol....went through basic training at Sheppard AFB for the Air National Guard and had to qualify with the M1 carbine....like that one....
