Uncle Mat and Momma went there as Children. It had been closed a while, and was on 5 Acres. Daddy and Momma bought it then turned it into a small 2 bedroom house. Momma and Daddy Built in a kitchen and bath. Momma and big Bro dug a Well beside the house, Big bro was in the First Grade. I remember digging the drain field for the septic tank and packing the Chinking in the Black Iron Pipe for the Lead that was poured into the joints. Then a room, well Porch was built on the back of the House. One Neighbor had a cotton Field behind our house that we picked cotton in one summer. My Little Brother and I were pulled on cotton sacks by two Black Ladies down the rows and we picked the low stuff that was harder to reach for them. two kids four and five dont weigh much, but times were hard in 1954. The little old widdow woman that lived next door was off limits !!!! we was told that she was a Witch, so we stayed clear for a long time. That is, untill the Plums got ripe close to her house. While Raiding the plum orchard we could get glimpses of the Witch that lived in the run down place. Three boys that had never seen a Witch HAD to get a closed look if you know what I mean.... You cant fool a Witch... WE ALREADY KNEW ABOUT HANCLE AND GRETTLE... We were Caught, Brought into the Kitchen and given Sugar cookies she had baked and milk. My older Brother had Two seed worts on his hand on the nuckle that cracked open and hurt. She saw them as we ate the cookies. She asked Johnny ---- Would you like to get rid of them forever so they will never hurt again????? Yes he answered. She said you must believe with all your heart they will go away and never tell anyone..... She took two kurnels of corn and put one drop of blood on each, Took us out in the yard and said give the corn to the chickens in the yard, Which he did. Remember to not tell anyone she said as we went home. Come back again she said as we high tailed it out of there.. In three days the worts fell off and never came back..... We never went back , But I believe, I believe!!!!!! I cant pass the place where she lived without remembering
