I don't know if it's the ads or what, but this site has become problematic for me again. The back button seems to be a suggestion. Computer generally acts like it's doing 14 million tasks when I log on. Anyone else?

OK here as well. I don't see the ads because I'm a supporter. I don't use the back button. I use the "bread crumb trail" to navigate.

"bread crumb trail"????
Pmantle,
I used to do computer repair work on the side. Here are a few things that may help you speed up your computer.
1) make sure that your computer is set to auto update it's version of windows. If you have it turned off then turn it on and leave it connected to the internet for a while so it can update everything. step by step here Turn automatic updating on or off
2) drop internet explorer..... quite frankly it's terrible..... the best / fastest brower out right now is chrome.... but if you don't like the feel of chrome use mozilla firefox (it feels similar to IE... but is much, much more optimized)
3) download and install something like glary utilities free version..... run the 1 click fix on the program once a week or so. it will do wonders to cleanup old conflicting registry entries that will bogg your PC down.
4) Don't install toolbars etc on your browser / computer. remember every time you download and install something you are allowing another program to run in the background all the time while your pc is running... the more you allow that the slower your pc is going to get.
I will attach some safe links to stuff so you can download and get the stuff i am talking about. If this doesn't get you back up to speed, just pm me a phone number and I will give you a call and remotely fix your PC for you.
Google Chrome - CNET Download.com Cnet download for Google Chrome
Glary Utilities - CNET Download.com glary utilities

Prowler, first of all, thanks so much for the tips. Unfortunately, IE is my only option here at work. Just no getting around that one. I've used Ccleaner a lot for registry stuff, but I'll give yours a try too. Toolbars a big no-no in my world. I never allow those to be a part of any new download.
Thanks again, and I'll try what I can.
okay, i understand the situation a little bit better now.
Talk to me a little bit more about what it is that's happening when your having problems. Try to isolate if it only does those things on this site, or on all sites when the problems are happening. etc etc etc.. any more info you can give that might help me figure out whats going on.
Also do you know what operating system your work PC is running? Also which antivirus your running.

On this site, and on Tigerdroppings.com. My back button often does nothing. In addition, sometimes these sites are just "lost" and then restored. Today, tigerdroppings could not be restored. Running XP and Symantec.
