    Default Idea for tyers

As some of you know the last few years i have been into flyfishing and fly tying but now I am getting back into crappie fishing and jig tying. But to the idea point the fly fishing club I am involed holds and flyfishing in general holds what they call conclaves through out the year just a gathering of tyers get together and tie and just general gathering of guys with the same interst that dicuss fishing methods, tying just mainly a social gathering, so just a thought that it would be nice for the the Louisiana or any member of crappie.com to hold a tying or meeting like this somewhere in the central part of state. I would help look for a location and organize if enough guys were interested

Jamie, that is an EXCELLENT idea!
If I may expound on it a bit. The fly fishing conclaves are typcially held on a Saturday between roughly 0830 and 1600 during the "off season". For fly guys, that is generally February and March, for sac-stompers high summer might be a good time.
A conclave is sponsored by one of the various clubs in the state. The members either volunteer to give programs or to invite some well-known somebody from outside the group to either tie their specilaty flies or give a program. Someone else is responsible for lunch, which is offered for a nominal fee. Coffee and soft drinks are complements of the club at no charge, but that would have to be determined in this case.
Since there is no specific local "club", most of that stuff would have to be by volunteers or by appointment from a "Board" of the best-known and talented participants herein. For instance, 15 of those folks would comprise the "board" and communicate with each other by phone, e-mails, or PM's on who they would recommend to give a talk on, say, trolling techniques. Then a vote would be taken, and if the winner accepts the invitation, then there's a program.
Finding a place to hold the gathering might present a problem. Various churches, civic centers, and the like are a possibility. If a fee is required, then a nominal admission charge would be necessary - something the "board" would tend to.
Anyway, fly fishing conclaves are both fun and informative, and I see no reason why one involving sac-a-lait fishing wouldn't be the same. Assuredly some effort would be required to set one up, but the rewards should be well worth that effort.
    Pete

Now that I have at least one intersted I will pitch idea a little more. I have been to and involved in the flyfishing conclaves the last few years at the local as well as regional levels as a tyer and helped put on some local club events, I know you can go all out or just stay simple most conclaves are for raising money for a club or a FFF council, that is not my idea. More of what I was thinking was at a state park or other similar place with a covered area for tyers, no big name speakers, if someone attending would like to speak about something fine, as far as eating everyone would bring or do there own thing.Just basically a social gathering maybe have a raffle of donated jigs, a swap box of materials, THIS IS JUST A EXAMPLE:

    CRAPPIE JIG EXPO
    LAKE CLAIBORNE STATE PARK
    JULY 17, 2011
    8 to 4
you are invited to the first annual crappie jig expo,
raffle of donated flies all signed up will receive one ticket, others will be $1
bring your unwanted materials there will be a swap box
tyers may swap or sell thier jigs but must be tied by seller
there will be coffee and drinks for a small fee
    admission is price into park
    HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE

If I can seem to get about 10 to12 interested I will start putting something together so if you read this and are intersted leave a post of your location and date you do not have to be a tyer maybe you just want to stockup on hand tied jigs or what to learn how to tie

Just now saw this. I like the idea! I primarily tie jigs but would like to get into fly fishing. This could be a good way to make me actually do it. I keep in contact with jig tyers from several different states. Everyones style is different.... Especially geographically.
