Jamie, that is an EXCELLENT idea!
If I may expound on it a bit. The fly fishing conclaves are typcially held on a Saturday between roughly 0830 and 1600 during the "off season". For fly guys, that is generally February and March, for sac-stompers high summer might be a good time.
A conclave is sponsored by one of the various clubs in the state. The members either volunteer to give programs or to invite some well-known somebody from outside the group to either tie their specilaty flies or give a program. Someone else is responsible for lunch, which is offered for a nominal fee. Coffee and soft drinks are complements of the club at no charge, but that would have to be determined in this case.
Since there is no specific local "club", most of that stuff would have to be by volunteers or by appointment from a "Board" of the best-known and talented participants herein. For instance, 15 of those folks would comprise the "board" and communicate with each other by phone, e-mails, or PM's on who they would recommend to give a talk on, say, trolling techniques. Then a vote would be taken, and if the winner accepts the invitation, then there's a program.
Finding a place to hold the gathering might present a problem. Various churches, civic centers, and the like are a possibility. If a fee is required, then a nominal admission charge would be necessary - something the "board" would tend to.
Anyway, fly fishing conclaves are both fun and informative, and I see no reason why one involving sac-a-lait fishing wouldn't be the same. Assuredly some effort would be required to set one up, but the rewards should be well worth that effort.
Pete
