Sunday on a "Raleigh Parks" lake:

    1:45pm-5:45pm
    8 crappie 10" to 12.25"
    ***Homemade minnow rig

    #6 Vanish Transition Line
    6'-8' in 8-11'
    Water Temp: 69F

***big fish of the day caught on this bait

I got my chores done so it was off to the lake. It was very windy, but I was able to hold the midlake hump just long enough to pry loose the 3 hungriest crappies. It was slow everywhere. Not only were the fish not interested in a tube jig meal, they were offended that I even offered it too them. The homemade rig was the only bait that was hit.

Also, I somehow managed to smash both thumbs today in unrelated activites. Good way to sail into Monday.

Slow for me too! It was Family time for me so I ony fished a couple of hrs today on Falls lake and it seemed that no matter where I went the wind was blowing me all over the place.. I ended up with 2 fish! They were nice ones, about 11" but they were released for another day.

Saturday on a "Raleigh Parks" lake:

    9:30am-4:00pm
    7 crappie 12" to 14" (14"=1 lb 10.5 oz)
    ***Homemade minnow rig

    #6 Vanish Transition Line
    8'-10' in 8'-10'
    Water Temp: 64F

***big fish of the day caught on this bait

It was a bit windy today, but the biggest problem was the lack of bites. They were not that hungry today. I caught a total of 10 fish today--3 were 6" and the other 7 averaged 12.5." Only one on the hump today (1 lb 7 oz) and one on the PVC. Like last week, the Crappie scoffed at the idea of ingesting a tube.
I tried a new version of the homemade rig today. I used one uncut piece of #50 line to make an entire rig, tying a loop at either end and two 3" dropshot loops in the middle. A snell was tied into each dropshot loop "arm." It seems like it should've worked, and it didn't tangle very much, but the bites favored my original product. I will try it again on a more positively quantitative day before I make a qualitative decision.

glad you had a good time and caught some fish! The rig you just described is the same rig I've been using. It's a cheap alternative to the double bottom rigs and you lose the hardware for those days when the fish are picky. Here's a link to the knot I'm using for the standoff style loop. I'm assuming this is the knot you're referring to.

    "Fly Angler's OnLine - Dropper Loop Knot - Knots - 6"

lots of good knots on this page as well.

    Right on, Whompus.

The loop extends about 3" from the mainline. I also tie an overhand knot into the end of the loop to make it narrower.

    Thanks for the link!

I'm hearing all these great reports from Jordan; but they've all but shut off on my home lake. Saturday, they prefered a moving jig. Sunday, I only caught White Crappies. I really don't have a guess as to why the fish have slowed down so much on the lake, why they have lost interest in minnows, and why the Black Crappie bite stopped totally. Next week I think I'll try Jordan

man i wish we had your problem. we seldom catch a white. as far as the blacks they may be moving to piles like ours are. doing any good on the hump at all? when the white bass get active they seem to put every species in a fired up mode. they are attacking faster baits with more action.
