It just depends on your light and how deep the water is. Less than 10 foot of water you're going to catch fish that don't mind getting in the brigher light. White bass. White perch. Channel cats and etc.
If you're in 15 plus feet of water, you're in crappie teritorry. Usually 10 to 14 foot is a good place to start with your bait. Bigger fish will usually be deeper.
When night fishing with a light, it is best to concentrate on areas that get a ton of fish traffic. Points. Humps at the mouth of creeks or off main lake channels. You can even fish in open water. Most all fish will move at night. The more moon, the more they move. Moonlight just competes with your light.
