I'm a Humminbird man myself. Helix or Solix. I've seen the Solix and the touch screen is neat but it might not be worth the extra money to you.

Get the biggest screen you can afford. Amber on bright days. Blue on cloudy days. Whatever you get........get Side Imaging. It will change your fishing forever.

I have owned Humminbird for a long time but the competition between Lowrance, Humminbird and Garmin has turned out some great stuff. Enjoy the hunt, it's half the fun.

Basspro and Cabela's were running a deal on Lowrance Elite 9 TI's earlier this spring for less than $600. My cabela's still had some two week's ago.My understanding of the main difference between the TI and TI2 was that the TI2 did wireless sharing between 2 TI2's. I was planning to get a Humminbird but could not pass up the deal. Has traditional sonar, chirp, downscan, side scan, and came with a Navionics chip and transducer. Also is touchscreen.

All my equipment is Garmin except a Vexilar flasher, I could not do without it, real time vs processed time. All units are great more important is the interpretation of what you are seeing. Garmin has a program called Homeport which is great. Also keep a log book and I have a book of screenshots with gps coordinates for each brush pile.
