Default Engel Live Bait cooler inquiry

So think I’m gonna step up from the styrofoam buckets, been looking at the Engels awhile. For those that use them pro’s/con’s/ sizes? I’m thinking the 19qt is gonna be my choice. How many dozen small minnows will it hold for day or two? It will also see use for shrimp and mummichugs at the beach.

    Thanks in advance.

I have a 19 with a frabil bubbler and usually buy 6 dozen minnows. I get to the lake and add more water so the oversized minnow net can rest on the top lip but allow a scoop of minnows to swim. I’ve used 5 gallon buckets and frabil styrofoam buckets. Yes it can be done with a homemade setup but I like mine and would buy it again. I don’t have as many die but think it may just be more water and attention being paid to the minnows. The handle isn’t the best from what I’ve read so I grab the shoulder strap in my hand with the handle while transporting. Also since it can latch closed, I don’t have issue of water splashing everywhere or a turned over bucket which I’ve had both. I doubt you will regret getting a 19 if you use minnows most of the time.

I'd say you could handle 12 to 15 dozen in the 19qt, I put as many as 30 dozen med/large in my 30 all the time with very little loss, key is clean water and plenty of air!!

I have the 30qt, only 2 cons is it's pretty heavy once you have water and minnows in tow. 2nd is the bubbler is very loud, I bought a frabil to replace it. I would definitely buy another one if I needed one again.

I'm running the 19. I can do 6-10 dozen a couple of days. On one set of batteries or plug it up and keep them a week most times adding a little ice to cool water.

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like the 19 is what I need, usually get 6-8 dozen when we go. In winter at Jordan have bought 12/13 but they get used so fast not an issue.
One trip when I was kid (5-7)never forget, we were leaving lake and had some bait left, dads buddy was under Bass Chapel Rd bridge and we stopped and gave him our leftovers. As he was getting settled back in seat stepped square into foam bucket, minnows everywhere.

My 19 will handle that many easily. It's one of the better fishing tools I've bought lately.

Only tote/ carry it with the plastic Han due EMPTY, use the strap. The handle is the weak spot.

I love my Engel bait cooler. The seal keeps water from splashing out onto the floor boards of my truck. I kept 2-3 dz minnows alive in the for 2 days.
Oh I could wrestle a monster fish
