OBX flounder

Have any of you done any flounder gigging out at Nags Head? I'm headed to Rodanthe later this week and would like to try some flounder gigging in the sound. I plan to just wade around but we will have our kayaks available. Just looking for some info if anyone has any. I have a pretty bright light that will have no issues lighting up water that's a few feet deep.

Have gigged around Morehead City and Drum Inlet, but never up north where you are going. Good luck if you find a place.

A coleman lantern will work too if have more people than llights.

If you have an extra person going with you take a crab net and a bucket and you can usually get plenty of crabs.

Well we went out a couple of nights in the sound near Rodanthe and did not manage any keeper flounder. Saw several undersized but none to stick. We did get some crabs and saw a ton of popcorn shrimp. They were a little too small to stay in the openings of my cast net. Had a pretty good time and will probably head back soon but probably to a different location.

I tried to catch some drum on Sat morning behind pea island but the SW wind had the water messed up. Did catch a flounder and some small trout.

I'd go the rod n reel way to catch flatties. The OBX are me and the Raccoon's ole stomping grounds for whenever the fish back home in midlands SC don't like us no more. To catch flounder best place I caught them is at the hook at Cape Lookout Point. To get there you must be able to 4x4 it on the beach. If you don't have/want a permit to drive on beach, hitch hiking worked for me. Carolina rig a finger mullet (dead or alive) in the quiet area of the hook. If no mullet to be had, try a Gulp shrimp 2" size preferable. Plan B is to follow the Pole rd behind the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum aka Ramp 55. Go to the inlet and try there.
