This guy (Randy Salter) was a registered boat dealer in Fort Mill SC ( Carolina Boats & Cars) who sold me a boat without a title (Illegal in SC, especially for an authorized dealer).
We purchased the boat 8/4/09 and was promised by Randy that he'd take care of all the paperwork, registrations..etc. After trying to be nice and work with he and his wife Angela as they worked to get the title (last count she had supposedly found the original owner and was working to get the title, that was at the beginning of the year, it's now 21June2010)
I'm stuck with a boat I can't legally use. Randy and Angela really seem to be good people but apparently that's not the case.
Beware of these folks. They moved from Fort Mill, to Denver NC. We won our court case and are now working with the DNR to get the boat titled which may take months because they have to do an investigation.
Be sure you have a title when buying a boat. Even an "official" boat dealer can apparently cheat you.
If anyone has hints/tips on what I can do to get the boat titled faster or collect on the judgement I'd appreciate it.

I wasn't born here, but I got here as fast as I could
I called that place in Ft. Mill the boat junkyard. Many questionable boats and cars there. Walked onto a boat in the lot and foot fell thru flooring. Said not interested and drove off
Oh I could wrestle a monster fish
The boat I have is in pretty good shape, runs well..etc after I cleaned it up. The "dealer" did a lot of work before I got it as well.

The DNR said they will be able to give me a title after they investigate. It might take at least a month or more. I'm missing a lot of good weather.

Pomoxis.... I have a very serious issue with Randy also.Who is the investigator you dealt with and do you have his telephone number? Thank you very much.
During hurricane Katrina a lot of boats were lost in the tidal surge and wound up who knows where.......some folks were going around and just carting them off......be cautious on your boat purchase.......

I'll get his number and name again after I call for a status update tomorrow. Since he's in NC the SC DNR didn't know what they could do so we'll see. At the end of the day if they just title my boat that's all I'm asking them to do. That having been said when you file against him do it in Lincoln and Mech counties in NC. He and Angela own property in both.
I'll be filing foreign judgments soon. Since I've already won it would be cheaper for him to just settle out of court but he's not taking my calls.
If he is a stand up guy then he needs to settle this with me quick. The more junk I have to do the more it becomes a matter of principle.

DNR is issuing my title this week so I can now sell the boat.
