    Default Drift Sock Preference


    Thinking seriously about purchasing a drift sock and have noticed there are many different manufacturers out there and i have no knowledge about them and which ones are better quality and which ones are not good. Anything you can share will be greatly appreciated.

    If you want a quick cheap one. Bore a few holes in a 5 gallon bucket bottom about 1 inch. Take the handle off and bore 4 holes about 1/4 inch or so evenly around the top and tie small rope through those holes connected to a swivel bought at lowes. they work great are cheap and you can store things around the boat in them when not in use such as casting nets, etc.

    Mine came from and are badged Cabela's. I've had them for 20 or so years and have used them extensively. They have a ring of segmented aluminum tubing around the mouth that holds it open. They are good one's!

    What size would I need for a TR19 I'm buying 2 want to slow to abou .4 in 15 mph winds.

    If you use a bucket, it might be a good idea to always have a sharp knife available. If that thing gets snagged in a strong wind, you could have serious trouble.

    I have a 2072 war eagle and I have two 78" cabelas drift socks and I have to use both of them in 15+ mph winds to keep my boat at .3 to .4. They are the cabelas pro drift socks they are nice because the case is built in all you have to do is fold them up and zip the pouch and they are ready to put back in storage
