    Default A FOOLISH RUN

So I replaced my favorite rod the other day and ended up buying a new smoker. I was dying to try both of them, so I made a run over to Jordan Lake Friday. So what if the temp was 32* and there was wind and snow in the forecast-- I got a new rod and had to train it.
There was one boat in the lot at Seaforth at noon when I got there. By the time I launched and made a scanning pass with my locator, I saw him coming back to the ramp from the south and I had the whole lake to myself.
Saw some fish up on the flat outside the 64 bridge, but decided to fish the concrete first. Wind wasn't strong, but was coming directly from the north and that made the wind chill about 18*. My butt chill felt like about -20. There was ice building on my rod tips after 30 minutes. I had 7 fish and wanted to stay under the bridge, but it was just too darn cold.
Oh, I forgot to mention that I couldn't see the north shore because of the blowing snow. And the Master Sargent from home called and said it was really snowing hard at home and I should come home. I told her "no snow here", but I'd just fish a little longer and then come home.
Reluctantly, I left the concrete and got out of the wind and fished the flat where I saw fish earlier. I really wanted to go up to Farrington, but the thought of running 4 miles up the lake in that temperature just didn't work.
I found a few small clusters out on the flat and warmed up considerably. At 2, I put number 20 in the bucket and decided my frozen butt was done for the day.
Black and Chartruese and 22 ft. was the prescription for the day. My new rod was trained and I had fish to try my new smoker with.
Newly, I may post a picture later if I get everything put together and some filets cooked up.

You're a brave man, I was freezing yesterday. I don't think that ride from 64 to Farrington wouldve been any fun at running speeds.

You are tougher than I. Good effort and good results to those that try.

Your title kind of freaked me out. I thought maybe someone fell in or something... Glad you're safe. It's never good to read about people taking a dip in cold weather like this. I came down here from MN, and would hear numerous stories of guys trying to get out on the ice or something, too early...

Everyone I know tells me I'm crazy too fishing in this kind of cold, but two trips, two nice limits, and two days of having the lake to myself . . . I don't care what they say. Congrats on a good trip! Be safe out there in this cold though.
