    Default Friday

    Hey need some help here.
I'm planning on fishing Friday around Southport landing in a boat with just a trolling. Targets will be anything that bites basically. But cats and perch on top since I've not caught any crappies from this area before.
How dold I make a 3 or 4 hook perch rig? Never perch fished before.
I will be drift fishing to cover more water since I only ly have the trolling motor.
Any suggestions on rig making would be great.
    Thanks

Gander MT has bait rigs/ perch rigs for about $2.00 each , just bought some a few days ago, Gastonia store. Use the #6 hook, I use them all the time to catch perch for bait.

I make my own perch rigs. Just tie a 1/2oz or so egg sinker on the bottom. Come up 6-12 inches and do a 2 inch loop, come up another foot and do another loop. Put a small hook on each, throw on minnows and drag on or just off the bottom and hang on.

thank you guy for the replies.
I hoep the wind is right tomorrow for some drift fishing. If
    not then i'll anchor down.
I have not been fishing in almost 3 years now. last time was at the 2012 Lake Norman social with Red and a few other.
countryboy N.C., Shadboy was there, and I think NatNC and Knappy too, and a few others too.
so I'm hoping to find some fish to jump start my come back.
    I'll post my results

Like cwright said you can just tie on some hooks about 6 -8 in apart with a gold hook a lot of times you don't even need bait on the hook . Perch, worms or minnows will all work or even a small piece of cut chicken . GL

Anyone know how the water looks after the rain?
I'll be fishing the area above the south point ramps. I only have a trolling motor for now so I won't be going too far. Up to the condos and drifting back down. Then troll up again and drift down again.

One other thing about perch. To keep from using 10 dozen minnows, you can use a jig or a few minnows to catch the first one or two perch and then cut the belly out of them cut it into 2 to 3 inch strips about 1/4 inch wide and use that for bait. They hit it almost as good as minnows and it last for several fish.

Not sure about south point but every creek or river ive crossed if flowing pretty heavy. Another tip. you can save bait is to put a piece on every other hook and when you get a bite set the hook and leave it down there until you feel the rig load up , you can feel the fish grabbing the empty hooks then reel em up 4, 5 ,or 6 at a time.

south side of the bridge, upper river side, seems to be a promising place for crappie. you can look at navionics
