    Default Fontana Lake

Just wondering if anyone can tell me how the crappie fishing is at Fontana Lake...Kicking a few ideas around and trying to be near some decent crappie fishing lakes....Any info would be appreciated.

I have been fishing Fontana for a little over a year from shore , and while I haven't caught any crappies , they are there. I was at the marina near the dam one day last year , and saw a 15" that was near death floating near the pier. The only species I've caught there are smallmouth , a largemouth , and a channel catfish , all on minnows about 2 to 3 inches long. When the lake was low , I tried the brushpiles near the ramp at Tsali , and ended up with a 14 inch smallmouth leaping from the water throwing my hook. You may come out better waiting until the tourist season is over and the lake is lower than what it is now. However , Lake Junaluska is about 40 miles northeast , and you can really get into them during March/October. If you are in a boat , then you will have better chances. Powered boats are not allowed on Junaluska unless it is powered by an electric trolling motor.
