Default Saw Something on Harris Yesterday I Have Never Seen Before

Charles and I pre-fished Harris on Friday and found a cove with lots of fish for the Saturday tournament. We decided to fish two-hook rigs with minnows. We went right to that cove on Saturday and immediately started catching fish. Somewhere around mid-morning Charles hollered for me to come to the back of the boat. Numerous times during the morning we had double hook-ups. Charles said this one was different and to come look.

What I saw was amazing. Both crappie were around 7" long and as he got them up near the surface, a huge large-mouth bass grabbed the lower one and proceeded to play tug-of-war. I grabbed the net to see if I could scoop him up, but I sure wished now I had grabbed my camera. That bass did not want to let go and kept on pulling. When I got close-by with the net, he finally let go and eased back down into the deeper water. It was a sight we will never forget--staring at that monster doing all he could to pull that crappie off the hook and into his mouth.

That is a great story. Reminds me of a trip I made to a Tennessee pay-to-fish lake. A rather large black lady was cane pole fishing from the bank. She was catching shellcracker. One time she pulled one in and a large bigmouth grabbed her fish, but dropped back into the lake as she hefted it in. That lady swooped down on that fish with her substantial skirt and netted that bass, which weighed four or five pounds!

now that would have been something to see,
a few years back i was reeling in a 11'' crappie along the surface when a huge bass blew up on it, it knocked that crappie a good foot out of the water and when it came back down the bass engulfed it and swam away, since i still had a hook in the crappie and a dog in this fight i feed the fish line a a bit, reeled down and set the hook, i felt the fish for about 10 seconds then it got loose, i reeled in a frazzled 11' crappie, all his fins where messed up and lhe was missing alot of scales, but was still alive, i unhooked him and let him go and watched him quickly swim off, oh if fish could only talk.

We were longlining on Jordan a couple years ago and Zach was bringing a crappie in across the top and an Osprey swooped in and grabbed it at the edge of the boat. Zach was flying it like a kite for a few seconds before the bird let go. LOL

This got me to thinking about the same thing I did.About 40 years ago in my grandfathers pond we were fishing off the dam with long cane poles,,my cork went under and me being a young lad back then was Probally slow on picking it up,,but when I did I had a bass and brim,,had the brim on the hook and the bass had the brim,he let go but I got a good look at him.

the first time i took my now fiance fishing with me, the very first crappie she hooked was a 6" fish. as she kept it on the surface, a 5-6 lb bass was doing the same thing. I approached with the net, and the bass just sat there trying to pull it off the hook....i very easily scooped up the bass in the net before the bass realized what just happened.

Needless to say my fiance now things fishing is always that easy!

I almost caught a sea gull this past weekend fishing live shrimp under a popping cork, the shrimp came up to the top and the gull picked it up out of the water, but luckily it didnt get the hook.

Almost the same thing happened to us on saltwater once. We were pulling a cigar minnow across the surface and an albatross (?) grabbed it. Zach flew it in like a kite and we got it in the boat and unhooked it. LOL
