I had a great day on Jan 1, tried on Jan 18 and it was miserable fishing. Can't win everytime!

Has anybody fished at Shearon Harris's dam or spillway? Can bank fishing folks like me get to it? If you've fished it, what kind of luck did you have? Flatfoot

It has been years since I made a feeble attempt at exploring that, but could not legally get close and the creek was fairly small below.

Thanks, Optimystic. Guess I'll have to try elsewhere at Shearon Harris.

The best luck I had from the bank was parking by the bridge on the east side and walking a trail south (toward the big part of the lake). There is a point just right there I caught bass from. On the other side of the street, it is shallower and I caught catfish and panfish in good numbers in the summer and fall. The shallower part was an easier bank to fish. I advise against the rip rap really near the bridge; it's a good place to fish but a dangerous place to hike. There is a fishing pier with structure close enough to cast to in the county park but I never did much good there and they don't allow fishing from just any bank in the county park (and they do patrol). The park also has a put 'n take (stocked for Community Fishing Program) catfish pond. They will start stocking that late spring.

Thanks, Optimystic. I've fished at the county park pier, too. It's very nice but I didn't get any bites there. I had better luck from the shore to the right of the pier. I caught a three pound plus largemouth bass from shore a few years ago. Flatfoot

Interesting; I also had better luck from the bank near the pier except for the part where a park employee told me I couldn't fish from there. No ticket or anything, just told I could only fish off the pier or in the pond and then watched until I walked back to my car. That was the last time I fished there. Now I paddle.

OptiMystic I was out there a few weeks ago and fished to the right of the pier again for about an hour. No bites this time. I wasn't bothered by anybody. There are cables in the water by those big towers that can be a pain.
