Went to Harris today. Got there late didn't have much luck. We caught one white perch and a 10 inch crappie. Used minnows on a drop shot rig. Met hockey86 today it was nice to talk to a member from here
mac crappie LIKED above post
Good to talk to you too. We did catch a few right at dark but mostly we caught white perch again. It's not been as hot as it was about 3 weeks ago.
Got a similar report from a friend. I will be paddling there tomorrow right after this little low comes in and the likely rain stops. I hope that turns them back on. My buddy and his son had one decent crappie each; that's it. Marked plenty of fish on sonar.
Wind was crazy bad today, especially for kayaks. Shoulda gone to Robeson or somewhere else narrow. Was only out a little while; brutal paddling very little fishing. Drifting too fast and the protected coves seemed pretty lifeless.
OptiMystic, what time did you get there? I got there just before noon and a couple of guys were just launching their yaks. I asked the one guy if he was posting on this board but he hadn't so I knew it wasn't you. I was launching a black Tracker Targa V18.
It was a brutal day. I anchored in several spots around the lake and I was still dragging a 30lbs. anchor around. Fished up the main channel heading toward the power plant then went up the channel by the dam and it was muddy. Spent 4 hours fighting the wind and called it a day, skunked. I'll be back though.
At Hollemans? That was us. You probably talked to Mike; he uses the ramp with his Jackson Big Rig. I was in the little blue kayak launching off the other side of the point with the guy in the Wilderness yak. I have a light boat and I like taking my time rigging at the water before I take off so I don't use the ramp. I went down to where it drops of to about 35' near shore planning to zig zig drifting and jigging. It was more like high speed trolling. I got some hits on a drop shot with a small hair jig but they weren't of a mind to chase it and I couldn't keep it in one spot. I gave that up and crossed over to the point across from the ramp hoping it had less wind and I could jig around the roadbed. Maybe it did have a little less wind, but it was still pushing too fast. I finally backed into the weeds near the mouth of one of the little coves and had a few peaceful minutes with the sun out and the wind blocked. The only thing that would have made it better was if I could buy a bite in the cove, but that wasn't happening. Still good to get out of the house and paddle.
Then I did run into you. I was in line behind the guy that has the fully decked out green yak (Mike). You guys actually moved your truck to let me get to the ramp. Probably will see you guys out there again.
Yeah, that was us. I was the passenger. I was worried that you might think we were trying to jump in line when we stopped by Mike for a minute. That is more or less my home lake (16 miles to the ramp, but who's counting?) so I get there fairly often. I plan to try for a little more variety this year, but if I have a few hours with no plan, that's where I end up.
