    Default Not Good Day

Size: 41.0 KBBlack River 12/7/14... What a difference a day (and a front) makes. This is the payoff for 5 hours of hunting crappie. Went to the same spot my mom and I went to Saturday and got a few half hearted hits, one throwback, and one keeper. I believe they were there, as I was marking suspended fish, but the front gave them lockjaw. After a while I picked up and tried a different cove where I picked up one more keeper crappie, a nice bluegill, and a nice flier. I think fliers are only down east here in the Carolina bay lakes and acidic / tannin stained creeks and rivers. They eat great though. I usually don't keep bluegill, but the water's so cold and clean I thought I'd give it a try. Filleted and fried it all up last night and couldn't tell the difference. Don't know about you guys, but do ya'll flip your fillets over and fillet the skin off? I think they're much better that way because you get the crunchy breader on all sides of the meat. Let me know about that one. Fish caught suspended (even the bream) 5-8 feet deep in 10-15 fow. One crappie on a black/chartreuse Slider and the rest on minnows. That's fishing.

I like skin on. Bones in seems tastier to me, too.

you know what they say about a bad day fishing. I filet boneless and skinless, yes I flip mine. However both the other gentlemen are correct, they taste better fried whole, which I do IF they are small. I also use an electric knife, much faster for me.

I'm like Banjo--use electric knife to fillet and then skin the other side. Then I use a short paring knife to cut out the rib bones. Last time I checked it took about 42 seconds to fillet and de-bone a fish.

Yep we flip em. I could not tell you the last time I ate one with bones or skin. As you get older I guess the time it takes to scale and saw just ain't worth it. We can do 40 in about 30 minutes and after a days fishing, that's about all two old farts want. Front fishing is mother natures way of letting us know.....ya'll are not near as good as you think you are. LOL.

4 is much better than ZERO! I skin my filets, too. I like smaller fish on the bone.
