Not Good Day
Black River 12/7/14... What a difference a day (and a front) makes. This is the payoff for 5 hours of hunting crappie. Went to the same spot my mom and I went to Saturday and got a few half hearted hits, one throwback, and one keeper. I believe they were there, as I was marking suspended fish, but the front gave them lockjaw. After a while I picked up and tried a different cove where I picked up one more keeper crappie, a nice bluegill, and a nice flier. I think fliers are only down east here in the Carolina bay lakes and acidic / tannin stained creeks and rivers. They eat great though. I usually don't keep bluegill, but the water's so cold and clean I thought I'd give it a try. Filleted and fried it all up last night and couldn't tell the difference. Don't know about you guys, but do ya'll flip your fillets over and fillet the skin off? I think they're much better that way because you get the crunchy breader on all sides of the meat. Let me know about that one. Fish caught suspended (even the bream) 5-8 feet deep in 10-15 fow. One crappie on a black/chartreuse Slider and the rest on minnows. That's fishing.
