I made lights similar to flounder gig lights out of PVC pipe. Mine are 10' long and they are submersible. I have a Q-beam I can use as a back up. I know a couple people who use generators and while they aren't that bad loud, I haven't noticed any difference in the bite. My main reason against a generator is the setup takes up a lot of room and a lot of cords that can cause a trip hazard plus if no ground-fault outlets it could get wet and you know what could happen then. If I can remember next time I go I'll take a picture.

    Default Fishing Lights

I've just not had much luck with the green submersible ones. Lynn and Bobbyj showed me their setup and I really like them. Clamp on lights with 12v bulbs. Bugs don't bother at all because of shield on light which shines down on water. Lynn had so much bait around his on the rear of the boat Saturday night when he turned them off sounded like dumping a 5 gallon bucket from baitfish jumping. Cost 10 dollars to make one.

Submersible wired to a 12 volt battery works best for me. I have two both LED's and I just hang them over the side of the boat. Color has not made any difference as far as I could tell.

I use halogen submersibles that can be changed from white to green or blue. Never used the blue and I let the fish tell me what color they want that night. I use the 12 volt bulbs with shields over the side of the boat to light up the rods so that the bugs stay out of the boat and off me.
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Can you provide more details on how to make these?

Screw a 12v bulb in. Get an extension cord and cut ends off. Put alligator clips on the end of extension cord and plug to battery. If you have two lights you can plug both of them into extension cord and your set. 12 v bulbs are near rv section at walmart or you can order off eBay. This time of year the bulbs can sometimes be hard to find

How long will it take one of those clamp lights with a 12 volt light in it to drag down a fresh charged battery if you leave it on?
