The bottom screw has a magnet on it to show metal shaving's for wear!! Might be good to check!! just done mine got a seal kit,Changed the impeller (water pump) after turning the prop had a ruff spot on the bearing!! Ordered a bearing kit!! ouch$ 305.00!! Better to catch it in the shop than on the water!! Back to tying jigs!!

I have a Merc. 50 4st. 2006 mod. I service it once a year. I have a hand pump that I got the first year. I pull the prop and check for fishing line, and feel the bearings, lube the shaft. I do this every year because I run in saltwater sometimes. Best advice I can give you is to go out of your way to get pure gas(no ethanol)and always use blue sta-bil. Look for phone app "Pure Gas". It will tell you where to get it where ever you are.

oh for changing your oil looks like soon you can dump it in kerr or gaston,it won't matter after they finish with that spill, don't know why they did not try to drag it while it was in narrow water, cheapper to let it flow to ocean and pay fines I recond

Well tried to fill my lower unit today but the stupid plastic tube was too big. Gotta go to West Marine and get the 8mm or 10mm fitting to attach the tube. Hopefully I can get it filled this week so I can hit the water this weekend.

That is a surprise. The pump I bought came with 3 adapters. Anyway, good luck.

I bought my pump at Advance Auto which I'm sure is intended for a vehicle differential but I thought I could still insert it into the hole. Picking up the right items from the store this afternoon. Livin' and always learnin'.
