Well, I guess I have lost my ability to catch crappie. Check out the thread on the SC Forum titled "1rod jigging for crappie Jordan lake, NC". "Slabslammer1" has caught more White Crappie in 1 trip than I have caught in over (6) years. Maybe, I need to go back to jigging (1) rod.
Monk
Slabslammer must have got his lakes confused. All those white crappie didn't come out of the Jordan Lake I know.
I tend to think the same thing. I've been fishing Jordan Lake since it was created and I don't ever remember seeing that many white crappie caught by one person. If they did come from our Jordan Lake, the white crappie must spawn at a different time and this guy found where they were bedding.
I gave up trying to distinguish crappie by their color a long time ago. The only real way to tell is by counting the dorsal fin spines. I can't tell from the pictures if they are white crappie or not. Water clarity and light penetration play a large role in how dark or light a crappie appears.
That's a heck of a lot different that what I've been catching at Jordan. There must be another Jordan in S.C.

Or been dead a while and hauled around in warm water. I think the reason people, myself included, think they are white crappie, is the vertical bars still visible on their sides.
Monk, I feel the same way when people come to High Rock that have never fished it before or maybe once or twice a year, and catch 2 or 3 limits of 10-15 inch crappie.
Crappie fishing is my lighthouse of sanity in an insane world,
It keeps me from crashing on the rocky shores of everyday life.
