All I can say is I went out yesterday in that wind and tried to fish from the bank and I aint doin it again today! Plan well for some shelter from it if you go. Good luck.

Hi Crappie Pros,
Can you share some thoughts about the crappie bite and wind speed and direction? Seems like I've had more luck when the wind came out of the east or SW less than ten miles an hour. Can't catch anything on a NW wind. I'm bound to the bank, so I have to find places where the foot can access. What about today? In the triangle the weather folks predict west/northwest winds 20-30 miles an hour. Thought I'd try fishing during the day today. Thanks. Ms. Catfish.

I don't think the wind direction affect whether or not the crappies will bite. I did really good yesterday and the wind was blowing like crazy. It all depends on what kind of bait u use and where you fish. I too fish off the bank and the I notice that crappies tend to bite during the hour between 2 til 4. That is when i catch the most crappie, other times maybe one here and there. Good luck
when crappie fishin i find that the problem isnt where the wind is blowin, it THAT the wind is blowin . I fish a toon and it catches even the slightest breeze. when the wind blows its hard to keep a bait still in the water. This is what i think keeps me from bein successful. especially this time of year when the crappies can be less than active. If im fishin jigs its hard to cast and the wind catches my line and because i have such a light bait it pulls my bait up out of the strike zone. I can suggest heavier weights to help in lighter wind or heavier jigs.
Well folks, I went this afternoon and found a cove but didn't catch nothin'. One guy using jigs was catching babies, and another guy using a tiny clear plastic minnow was catching their cousins. Went to Falls to my special place and NOBODY was catching nothin, at least not when we usually do, which at this time of the year is just about dusk, when we have been knockin' them left and right. The wind was blowin' pretty good on one side but the water was tranquil on the other side, but we wasn't catchin nothin' either side. Except a catfish or two. Maybe the crappie'll be in at midnight, when the temp hits 38. Better luck tomorrow. Maybe I'll go to Jordan tailrace and see if white bass are hitting.
Thanks for your thoughts about wind speed and wind direction. -- Ms. Catfish.
Ms. catfish Let me know how the crappie are doing at the Jordan tailrace. Last time I was there they were letting a lot of water out and nobody was catching anything. You might want to check the flow rate before you go.
Wind from east, fish bit the least. Wind from west, fish bite best. Something I've always heard growin up. Its never stopped me from fishin on a windy day though.
What's worse, to be in church wishing you were fishin' or to be fishin' and know you should be in church?
Get a new church that makes you forget fishing for awhile! Preacher man Steve.
WInd wont keep them from Biting , the only 2 tournaments we have ever won was with Winds hitting 25-30 MPH during the day , BUT I will say this & I beleive it with ALL my Heart ,,,, Why is the Wind Blowing plays A HUGEEEEEEEE HUGE part if the Fish are gonna Bite or Not ,,, by this i mean I HATE , CAN NOT STAND to Crappie fish the Day AFTER a cold Front has Passed , even DOUBLE if the wind is blowing & Triple if the Wind is Blowing out of the EAST !!
Once On Santee in South Carolina, We caught Over 20 Pounds with 10 Fish , wind was Blowing at least 20 MPH , BUT a cold front had not passed with in 4-5 days ! The Bite was ON Big time !!So just cause the Wind is Blowing Doesnt mean the Fish wont bite, BUT why the Wind is Blowing is what i always go by ,,, Hope that Makes sense ..
lol after I posted this , i had to edit it & add a few Other signs that a Friend told me just today ,, If the Cows are laying down on the way to go fishing BAD SIGN ( he was right on today lol ) , if the chickens arent feeding , BAD SIGN ( again he was right on today !! )
