Yes there is a lid on the filter box I cut a piece of Plex glass to fit over top of the filter box. I put two bolts with wing nuts on each end. No water comes out at all. Also I put a latch on my lid and cut a piece of wood around the lip of my lid inside so when I shut the lid no water can get out. I have a small digital thermometer ( got off ebay ) I keep my water around 58-65 remember the cooler the water the more oxygen it will hold. I use Mortons Salt I put one 26oz in my tank you can get it at wal-mart $.50. I also put 1 cap full of Hydroperoxide makes more Oxygen. Just remember to keep your filter VERY clean. I also use Better bait and Shad Keeper. Hope all this helps

Great shad tank, I built one out of a 30 gal drum a few years ago. It was not nearly as good as your version. I will have to make one like yours, it is way better.

In searching Google for ideas I ran across this post and decided to build one for my boat. Yesterday was my first day on the water with it and it worked great. I caught around 70 shad with cast net and kept them from around 7:30AM till we quit fishing around 2PM when we still had around 30 left in the tank that were as active and healthy looking as they were when we put them in the tank. Because of space I went with a 30 gallon barrel and it worked perfect.
