Either way, I'll quickly take up the extra slack and give a little hook-set after feeling for tension.

Usually only works well when it isn't too breezy.

I've also fished with a slip bobber and seen it start to move ever-so-slowly to one side or the other but NOT bobbing downward. Symptomatic of the same thing. Take up the slack and give a hook set.
WELL I KNOW TO SET THE HOOK GUYS BUT WHAT I WAS WONDERING IS IF THE FISH ARE DOING THAT WHAT DOES IT MEAN. I GUESS I NEED TO CALL MY UNCLE WHO LIVES UP ON TRUMAN. HE IS ONE OF THOSE GUYS WHO GOES ALOT ON THE OLD TYPE SIGNS. IF THE FISH ARE DOING THIS OR THAT THEN ITS GOING TO RAIN OR FLOOD. THE STUFF HE COMES UP WITH IS KIND OF WEIRD BUT HE IS USUALLY CORRECT.
