    Default Motor ?

We have a 25 hsp. Mercury motor that has puzzling problem. Runs good and water discharge good. But it collects water on inside of cover. When you lift motor up water runs out where cover meets bottom part. If you take cover off water is holding in bottom part. Took cover off while running motor and couldn't see any water leaks. Thought maybe were hose goes through bottom part so hubby put clamp on it. Not the problem. Puzzling since we couldn't see anything while motor running. Guess I will take it to shop next week. They will be busy at boat show now. Has anyone else had this problem.

My 175 EFI Mariner was doing the same thing. In this case it was the z shaped hose for the fresh water flush connection that had split.

Before taking to shop, check when running on the boat if motor is not being sprayed with water between transom and motor or bottom of motor is not dipping down on take off and collecting this water. Also you could pull cover, back into water and just leave on trailer and run to check for leaks. Doubt you have a motor problem.

I am wondering if when I back boat and trailer into water it is getting in there that way. It is a tiller and hubby is always setting on seat by motor when I launch and pull out. It is a 2000 model so seals around top cover may not be waterproof. Water levels are low so you need to back in further before floating.

I started to suggest that could be where it's coming from. Bet if you back it down then get out and check you will see that's where it's getting in.
