Default I understand what Beagleman, Jigging15, Hookin'&Cookin and the rest of you...........

were talking about. WOW! I didn't get to play with the unit as much as I wanted too because I was trying to put my friend on his first crappie. So I spent more time working with him. When you think enough of a friend to go buy him a crappie rod, reel, and also hand him a 541 piece Southern Pro assortment. I even taught him how to tie on a hook and a sickle hook lead head. Just a pay back for all of the support he has offered me in the past few years of my bad health problems. Not many friends would offer to take off work and take you to the doctor when they knew your wife couldn't take off work.

What I want to do is just go up to Pomme and have just Paula and I in the boat and not care about fishing. I want to play with this Lowrance HDS-7 Gen2 Touch Fishfinder/GPS Chartplotter with Insight USA and LSS-2 Transducer in locations that I have fished in the past without trying to catch anything. I had the sonar on, the GPS map and the side scanning on all at the same time. Guys it just blew my mind when I was coming back into state park marina and the danged GPS map showed the NO WAKE BUOYS!!!! I had to look at the map twice and then ask my friend to look at it too! Neither of us could even believe we saw the buoys on the fish finder!!! Guys I know I had 2 diet Mt Dews so I was drinking kind of hard! But dang Buoys cool! I also noticed that the side scan still worked at 28 mph running down the lake.

I remember dfar saying let someone else drive the boat and then watch the screen I see why he said that now!

Beagleman thanks for your advise on the screen savers and other insights~!!! And thanks again for telling me if I wanted a Lowrance then get a Lowrance period!

Jigging15, I bet old friends Noodling boxes show up really well with side and down scanning. Not that I would ever been stupid enough to do it when I can't swim!

Hookin&Cookin, JR I am glad you hammered me to get the largest screen we could afford! Now I see why! So much information to use to improve your fishing! I had 3 different items showing at once on the same screen.

vic n, Thanks for telling me to go to the electronics forum and the side/down imaging sub-forum. I need to take the time and look over what all has been said about my unit!

I have to say this with all honestly I have never ever run across a nicer bunch of folks than the Missouri Crappie.com members! Paula and I were both upset we didn't get to come to Spring Camp this year until Sunday morning. Maybe we can make it up to the Fall Camp!

Thank you all for all of your help!!! I am going to have a very large learning curve with this unit!

Good luck have had my lowrance for a few years now still amazes me and all I do is run it on factory settings. If I could remember or take the time as all the utube and other advice columns suggest I might even figure out more. I have a problem with holding the fishing pole first oh well again good luck.

Told you so,(not very often I get to say that)now figure out how to do screen shots and then post them , that way we can suggest setting changes if any to help out and besides we all like to see that stuff.

I wonder if my neighbors would think I am crazy for setting in my driveway behind the boat steering wheel? I am going to try to learn how to run this thing even if it kills me! I know that the tech who installed it at Marine Repair Center told me that the programing update that we installed on it makes it easier for me to operate it. It was the first time that he had seen the new update live in person.

Yep you did!!! Screen shots? Well your just going to have to wait on that! It took me about 6 months to figure out how to do one on my smart phone! I might be able to figure out how to do that by next Spring!

Press the pages button and the power button at the same time a screen shot well be saved, then it can be but on an SD card or sent vea WiFi (additional hardware required)to your computer and posted for us to enjoy, and don't forget about saving structure scan on top of your GPS map

Well that is easy enough! Thanks! Yeah the WiFi is $200.00. I want to learn the unit first. Oh I am not even to that point yet of saving structure scans on top of my GPS map. I didn't even check out the down scan, I was just using the sonar, GPS and the side scan.

One point the tech told me was that I might not be able to see the right side of my side scan with my motor totally down. Because he put the side scan on the left of the motor. But I was able to still see it with my motor down.

You may still have a lot of interference on the right, but you can eliminate that by raising the motor

If you're going to join the ranks of the truly obsessed, you will want an external 12V power supply so you don't have to sit in the driveway.....you will take the whole head unit in the house and plug into the 12V. Then you can sit at the computer along with the HDS screen and just go crazy!!
