Thread: Hickory nuts and walnuts

Went for a hike this AM to check damage to favorite fishing hole. Trail was new to me so was looking at all the sights. First dozen or so walnut were barren. then suddenly one tree was covered in nuts. Got me thinking about a discussion a neighbor and I had a couple days ago about the squirrels taking all the apples off my apple tree and the lack of nuts on the 20 or so trees we can see from the yard. So I counted tree and trees with nuts on my return trip. 65 trees total, 7 had decent crop of nuts. I am thinking that the spring rains and storms we had may have hit at just the right time and destroyed the crop.

Mine are loaded up and the hickory are already being hit by squirrels. Thankfully I do not have many walnut trees hate the mess and the mower throws them pretty good.
