Welcome, you will find people fall into a couple groups but they are all great folks and fun to be around. You have your hardcore jiggers vs. those who like a more lively presentation aka a shiner or minnow. You don't hear much about crickets but I know for a fact they work. Then there are the riggers either with a jig or minnow doesn't matter as long as you are set 10ft deep (absolutely all the time except when they are biting at another depth in which case your guess is a good as any (hint go swallow before going deeper or is that the other way around ). There are die hard anti-riggers most of whom haven't tried it because it is too darn expensive or they are too darn cheap (me). While despite what my lovely spouse thinks we could afford it but I prefer to talk ripnlips into setting up his boat up instead (work in progress).

Me personally, I'm a dipper. My prefer method is dipp'n trees with a you guess it....a minnow preferably a shiner.....but I'm starting to use jigs more and more. I do make fair use of slips bobbers and while I don't technically rig there has been at least four poles hanging off the front of my boat on several occasions. That has hazards in these parts as I saw one this spring jump out of the boat and skip 20 feet before disappearing. It was a brand new 12 footer, figures.

I forgot to mention another group you should know about.....the jig makers both traditional and plastic. I started tying jigs last winter, warning it is addicting proceed with caution if you are thinking about getting into it. It requires frequent trips to Everharts. Which you might as well know...they are about the absolute best place to get most of your supplies. Trust me, I live 60 miles from Clinton down by Stockton and I frequently make up excuses to go just because I want to paint or tie more jigs. I usually fish or hunt somewhere along the way.

I could go on but I do have to work in the morning. Welcome again and I hope to see you on the water.
